Pre-Term

Southampton University's Symphony Orchestra are calling all potential 2012 freshers for a week of fun!

The week before freshers week, current and future students will come together to rehearse for a one off concert! Rehearsals take place during the day, conducted by SUSO's Assistant Conductor, Alex Fryer, and then each evening there will be a brilliant social so that the new students can get to know each other and members of SUSO.

Pre-term this year will be from Sunday 16th September - Friday 21st September 2012.

Freshers will all stay together in accomodation in Southampton from the Sunday until the morning of Saturday 22nd which, along with the socials, is also a great opportunity to make friends and to get to know what Southampton's night life has to offer before term even starts!

All the rehearsing leads up to the concert at the end of the week on Friday at Turner Sims, the concert hall on the university campus. This is then followed by the annual pre-term house party!

This year our repertoire will be:

  • A Russian - Overture
  • Sibelius - Violin Concerto
  • Stravinksy - Symphony no. 1

This annual event is open to all freshers, not just music students! All we ask is that you can play an orchestral instrument to grade 6+ standard! For more information or an application form then please email preterm@suso.org.uk.
